There’s nothing quite like the taste of a sun-ripened peach, picked straight from the tree. At Eckert’s, summer peach season is one of the sweetest highlights of the year—and a tradition we love sharing with families across the Midwest. Whether you’re planning your first visit or returning for another round of juicy goodness, this guide will help you make the most of your peach-picking experience.
When Is Peach Season at Eckert’s?
Peach season begins in mid-June and typically runs through August at our Belleville, Grafton, and Versailles farms. Exact timing depends on weather and crop conditions, so we always recommend checking our Crop Update page before you head out to the farm.
Tips for Picking the Perfect Peach
Peach picking is easy when you know what to look for. Follow these simple tips to find the ripest, juiciest fruit in the orchard:
Color is Key: Look for deep yellow or golden skin, depending on the variety. A green tint means the peach isn’t quite ripe yet.
Feel the Firmness: Gently press the peach near the stem. If it gives slightly, it’s ready to enjoy. Too firm? Let it ripen a day or two at home.
Smell the Sweetness: A ripe peach gives off a sweet, fragrant aroma—nature’s way of saying it’s ready to eat!
What to Expect at Eckert’s
Field access is required for everyone entering the orchard (ages 2 and up), and tickets can be purchased online or on-site. When you arrive, you’ll hop aboard one of our tractor-pulled wagons for a ride out to the peach trees.
We provide the containers you’ll need for picking—just bring your appetite and sense of adventure! Our team will be on hand to point you to the best rows and answer any questions along the way.
After you pick, don’t forget to stop by our Country Store. From peach pie and jam to sweet cider, there are plenty of ways to enjoy your harvest.
