I officially deem it full-blown apple season here at Eckert’s now that I can bake the “Best Apple Pie” with two of our family-favorite, fresh-picked apple varieties.
Our family has tasted quite a few apple pies throughout 7 generations of apple growing! And one thing is for certain, a pie with a combination of Golden Delicious and Jonathan apples is, hands-down, our family’s favorite. In fact, the Eckert family is partial to a specific combination of 1 Golden Delicious apple for every 4 Jonathan apples. This tangy combination provides just the right amount of sweet and tart to compliment a crumb-top pie.
This week I made my first apple pie of the season and it was well worth the wait for Golden Delicious and Jonathan harvest. I cheated a little by starting with an Eckert’s frozen pie crust (I have yet to find a crust recipe more worth my time!). I can assemble the pie in just under 20 minutes.
Why not give it a try? I just know you will love it as much as the Eckert family does. And the secret apple combination…. It’s yours to share or keep!
Eat well this fall, Angie
